Hello all Piaggio Porter lovers, in this article we will show you how to adjust the alternator belt.
- First, screw in the adjustment bolt until the
deflection of the drive belt reaches the
indicated value. Check the belt by pressing the
central part between the pulley of the
water pump and alternator pulley,
applying a force equal to 98 N. - Once this is done, tighten the alternator locking screws.

We also show you how to examine your belt for wear, here's how:
- Look at the belt to be sure of any traces of separation from the adhesive rubber
at the top or bottom of the belt,
separations of the heart of the belt from the sides, fraying
of the heart of the strap, fraying
texture of the adhesive rubber, cracking or
ribbing, tearing, or crazing
in the internal ribs of the belt. Replace the
drive belt, if necessary. - Measure the deflection (indicated by the arrow) of the belt
of transmission when a force of 98 is applied
N (10 Kgf) in the central point of the belt itself,
between the alternator pulley (B) and the pulley
water pump (A)
Finally, we explain the difference between a new belt and a used one.
• A "NEW BELT" IS DEFINED AS A BELT WHICH HAS BEEN USED FOR LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES ON A RUNNING ENGINE.
• A "USED BELT" IS A BELT WHICH HAS BEEN USED FOR MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES ON A RUNNING ENGINE.
• AFTER INSTALLING A NEW BELT, RUN THE ENGINE FOR AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES AND THEN CHECK THE TENSION AGAIN.
